The Faces of Agriculture Like You’ve Never Seen Them Before

Giddy up, These cowgirls are hitting the road and taking you along for the ride!

We're busting the status quo and jumping behind the wheel to show the world how agriculture interconnects rural and urban communities.

Meet the cowgirls

It all started during a seven hour layover in Dallas. Courtenay rescued Kiah from baggage claim, took her out to a delicious Italian lunch, and the idea was born. Fueled by pasta and their combined passions for agriculture, travel, storytelling, and people, Backroad Cowgirls began to take shape. Friends, this is just the beginning of a grand adventure and we’re taking you along for the ride.

  • Courtenay is a cowgirl turned network television personality, keynote speaker, videographer, content creator and podcast host.

A fourth-generation cattle rancher from Kansas, Courtenay combines both her love for agriculture and urban living through her brand Fancy Lady Cowgirl. The brand aims to uplift people from all walks of life who uphold the cowgirl or cowboy spirit in unique ways. Through storytelling, digital media, fashion and special events she is bridging the disconnect between rural and urban living.

Courtenay is also an avid traveler. After a brief stint living in the Czech Republic, she was hooked. Today she has visited three continents and eighteen countries. Through her travels she has learned two very important lessons; all humans rely on agriculture and people have way more in common than they realize.

  • Kiah is a 6th generation California cattle rancher turned life coach, speaker, and podcast host.

After battling with her own weight and body image, she embarked on a health journey to lose over 100 pounds in one year. Along the way, she discovered a passion for empowering others to find joy in the journey to improve their mental, physical and emotional health.

Sharing her journey every step of the way, she built an engaged online community and had her story featured in media worldwide including People Magazine, Good Morning America, The Kelly Clarkson Show, Women’s Health and Access Hollywood.

She has a heart for rural America and the agriculture community, but her greatest passion is people. As an award-winning agriculture advocate, she uses her platform to help bridge the gap between producers and consumers by focusing on the humanity that connects us all.

the stops

The cowgirls stopped at a diverse group of places to see how agriculture seeps into so many facets of our daily lives.

Each stop shines a candid light on the people who make up agriculture. From pistachio growers to tatted-up chefs and restauranteurs, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ farmers, cattle ranchers, mental health professionals, vintners and more - this digital series will focus not only on the facts, but the faces and stories of the people who are as diverse as the industries they serve.

Know someone worthy of featuring on the show?

We’re always searching for more inspiring stories of people in agriculture to feature.

Have someone in mind? We’d love to hear about them!

the mission

Court and Kiah both believe deeply in agriculture and the people behind it. Their fun, lighthearted storytelling about farming and ranching interconnects rural and urban communities, showing the critical role agriculture plays in society beyond the production of food.

The girls are hitting the road, firing up their cameras, and getting their (cowgirl) boots dirty as they travel the world exploring the incredibly diverse agriculture industry and the inspiring people behind it.

Through an in-depth digital series, they are bringing everyone along for the ride! Think Anthony Bourdain's "Parts Unknown" on a shoestring budget with a few more cows and a little less cursing.

THE VISION

Through authentic and candid storytelling, these cowgirls are taking agriculture mainstream.

The cowgirls plan to take this series around the world and to a major platform to bring these diverse and inspiring agriculture stories to the masses.

These untold stories deserve to be told. The overall mission is to show that we’re all more alike than we are different and how agriculture connects us all.

Each season will feature a different region in North America and beyond to highlight the unique places and faces of agriculture. By the end of each episode, viewers will feel more curious and connected to the world, the people within it, and the food on their plates.
